The 2006 Five Dollar Bill

2006 Five Dollar Bill The redesigned five dollar note entered circulation on March 13, 2008. The redesigned bill features a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln on the front and the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse. Both the front and the reverse of the new five dollar bill is purple and blends to gray at the edges. The front of the five dollar bill contains the words FIVE DOLLARS across the bottom and FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE across the top, with numerical five's in each corner. The average life span of a five dollar bill is 16 months.

2006 Five Dollar Bill Reverse Sections of the back of the five dollar bill are blanked out when viewed under an infrared light. Modern anti-counterfeiting technology was introduced to the five dollar bill in 1993. The anti-counterfeiting measures added were a plastic security strip and microprinting around the portrait of Lincoln. The five on the lower right corner of the reverse side of the five dollar bill is enlarged and purple in the Series 2006 print. The back also contains the words THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA across the top and FIVE DOLLARS across the bottom.

The 1963 Five Dollar Bill

1963 Five Dollar Bill IN GOD WE TRUST was added to the five dollar bill on the Series 1963 bill. WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND was also removed from the front of the bill. The serial number of the bill is printed twice on the front 1963 bill, once in the lower left and once in the upper right.

1928 Five Dollar Bill The Series 1928 five dollar bill contains a portrait of Abraham Lincoln on the front and an image of the Lincoln Memorial on the back. The front of the Series 1928 five dollar bill also contains the words WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND and FIVE DOLLARS across the bottom, with numerical five's in all corners. The word FIVE is also displayed to the right of the portrait of Abraham Lincoln.

The 1923 $5 Silver Certificate

1923 Five Dollar Silver Certificate The 1923 five dollar silver certificate was nicknamed a "porthole" note due to the circular wording of "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" around the portrait of Abraham Lincoln. The front of the five dollar silver note also contains the words FIVE SILVER DOLLARS and PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND across the bottom.
